Phast/Safeti 8.4 is available now

After several months of development, I’m pleased to be able to say that Phast and Safeti 8.4 is available now.  It’s been a monumental effort by the team, so to be able to write this post and see the release email go out this morning is extremely exciting.  I am of the genuine belief that the improvements are game-changing for many Phast and Safeti users, and for that reason I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the whole team for their efforts over the past several months.

The most significant improvement is upgrading Phast/Safeti to 64-bit technology.  This is the foundation for improved memory management. Cumbersome workarounds for running large studies, which I know many of you will know what i’m referring to, are resigned to the past. And with faster calculations, version 8.4 is a leap in efficiency for your projects.

Throughout the development, we’ve had the user at the front of our minds. You will find 43 new materials in the standard list, chosen based on the most common materials that we see in users’ studies. All materials in Phast and Safeti are now based on the 2018 version of the DIPPR data. Better data gives better results.

We wanted to make it easier to build studies, especially where users have data in other systems such as Google Earth. Long pipelines, vessels, tanks and many other object types can now be generated using external data such as Google Earth’s KML format. If you have a pipeline drawn in another GIS, why not use that data to generate the pipeline in Phast and Safeti? In version 8.4, you can.

For Safeti 3D licence holders, summary exceedance curves can now be generated in the absence of detailed results in the database – another solution for another large study problem.

And finally, data output: multiple-duration thermal radiation exceedance curves, allowing users to see how the thermal radiation exceedance varies with time; ignition reports containing ignition probabilities and frequencies; ERPG toxic effect contours; and explosion diagnostics providing distances to pre-defined overpressures for each explosion modelled in Safeti’s risk calculations.
