World Water Day – doing our part for safe water

UN Sustainable Development Goal - Clean Water

UN Sustainable Development Goal – Clean Water

The 22nd of March is “World Water Day“.  Designated by the United Nations, it is intended to bring attention to the global need for available and safe water.  From the World Water Day web site:

“The Sustainable Development Goals, launched in 2015, include a target to ensure everyone has access to safe water by 2030, making water a key issue in the fight to eradicate extreme poverty.”

DNV GL is equally committed to doing its part to help provide clean water throughout the world.  We have been a United Nations Global Compact member since 2003.  With this organization we are working to turn the UN Sustainable Development Goals into local business initiatives.  Among these critical goals are Clean Water and Sanitation.  The crux of this goal is to “Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all”.

Synergi Water - safe water

DNV GL’s contributions to safe water

Some of our tangible actions can be found right within our software:
In Synergi Water, our flagship liquid modeling solution, we provide many features related to water safety and availability:
  • Tracing – Synergi Water has robust tracing capabilities that can calculate attributes as simple as water age though conservative and reactive substances, up to substances that interact with each other.
  • Flushing – Synergi Water has the ability to plan flushing routines that allow the efficient and timely cleaning of waterlines to insure clean pipes.
  • Public Safety – Synergi Water provides the ability to measure the extents of fire flow service.
We also realize that water is a valuable resource in the process of gas gathering.  So we are enhancing our Synergi Gas product, developing a new Liquid Steady State (LSS) module.  LSS will allow you to model gas, water and other liquids within the same model.  Where in the past, the water used in this process was not treated with the same level of attention in the model as the gas or liquid hydrocarbons, we now provide the ability to manage the use of water with the same importance.
But let’s not forget the most important piece of the puzzle when it comes to ensuring water safety; that’s our people.  DNV GL has many experts in the management of water networks, located throughout the world.  They are called upon to assist in the most complex projects geared toward ensuring reliable and safe water for our clients and their customers.

Ensuring water safety and availability is right in line with our company’s stated purposeTo safeguard life, property and the environment.  So we will continue to provide solutions to these global issues, for the betterment of society.
